It is widely accepted that conserving natural ecosystems is more beneficial for local governments than replacing them with costly engineered infrastructure. Proactive planning now will ensure that these irreplaceable resources continue to support a healthy environment, a healthy economy and a healthy population now and in the future.
As a Wetland Stewardship Partnership (WSP) initiative, the Green Bylaws Toolkit for Conserving Sensitive Ecosystems and Green Infrastructure provides municipal and regional governments with practical tools for protecting green infrastructure. It includes bylaw language that B.C. municipalities are using to protect sensitive ecosystems and explains the various legal approaches to protection, their benefits and drawbacks. It acts as a resource for all stakeholders as they prepare to implement measures that protect the environment.
